La Aroma de Cuba, Monarch 6×52
The aroma of Cuba – how romantic is that? I chose this cigar (La Aroma de Cuba, Monarch 6×52) ’cause it sounded great by the name and I knew that they were highly rated. What a struggle!
The taste was good from the start, but the draw was a strain. This was a Monarch 6×52 and it was so hard to draw that I took to mechanical measures and used a bamboo skewer from the kitchen drawer to pierce the thing from the tip to the ash, more than once, to free the smoke to my mouth.
Now maybe, just maybe, this was an oddity and a one-off that just wasn’t rolled very well, but the flavor was good to begin with, so I persisted to get the thing working.
I’d never done this before (the bamboo poker), but I’ve seen contraptions in catalogs to do just this type of thing and I didn’t have to pay the $10 bucks to buy a the gadget to do it. The bamboo skewer worked just fine, even if I had to thrust the thing a few times till it started to draw.
Still the smoke was flavorful and tasted great, what smoke I could get. I will try another one of these on occasion just to see if I got the odd stick that didn’t work so well, because what I tasted was mild-medium and the heft and taste was very pleasing in the mouth.
The wrapper was all pretty and spruced up with the label and ribbon on the foot and the thing was a great presentation from the start. The late afternoon/early evening was warm and calm and the perfect moment for a pleasing smoke. The birds sang, the sun shone, the air was warm and enveloping. I just had to draw on this thing like a mother-f to get a puff.
The taste was earthy and not harsh at all. I smoked it to ‘less than a nub’ and while it got easier in the last third, it still didn’t draw as I would have liked.
I loved the flavor and I will smoke another, or at least another from the same brand.
Try one and let me know if you get the same experience.
Viva la Cuba! Yum.
