La Aroma de Cuba, Monarch 6×52

La Aroma de Cuba, Monarch 6×52 The aroma of Cuba – how romantic is that? I chose this cigar (La Aroma de Cuba, Monarch 6×52) ’cause it sounded great by the name and I knew that they were highly rated. What a struggle! The taste was good from the start, but the draw was a strain. This was a Monarch 6×52 and it was so hard to draw that I took to mechanical measures and used a bamboo skewer from…

Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto 5.5×50

Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto 5.5×50 Just finished a new brand. This Rocky Patel Sun Grown Robusto 5.5×50 smoked very well and satisfying to the finish, nub, stub, OUT! The chocolate-reddish wrapper, medium smoke (rated as a “full” in ratings that I have seen) burned a little split at the start. Perhaps the fillers weren’t rolled tight enough or completely at the end, but the cigar burned slowly and evenly from then on. I thought the draw was a little tight…

Punch Gran Puro Santa Rita 4.5×52

I thought the Punch Gran Puro Santa Rita was the perfect cigar. After tasting a few more, I had to think again. I like the Punch Gran Puro a lot. It is a medium to full smoke with a lot of flavor and some spice in there as well. I had been trying some cigars for a short while with lots of breaks in between and then I tried the Punch Gran Puro Santa Rita. It is a quality smoke, smooth…

AJ Fernandez San Lotano Connecticut Toro 6×52

The AJ Fernandez San Lotano Connecticut was really my FIRST cigar. I had experienced cigars before, but I couldn’t tell you what they were or how they tasted. My brother had sent me a Connecticut sampler from Thompson Cigars and I smokes a couple of them, but couldn’t fathom finishing the whole bundle. It was just too many of nondescript sticks that I couldn’t smoke fast enough before they dried up, not having a humidor to keep them for any…

ACID Kuba Kuba Maduro Robusto 5×54, Drew Estate

I had my first ACID Kuba Kuba Maduro cigar today. It felt like a fat cigar in my fingers. Not my first choice size-wise, but I tried it. When I get a stick over 52 ring size, they seem a little chubby in my hand. I got to play with this one a while and then it became a little more familiar. I almost lose hold of the larger ring sizes and sometimes feel like I’m going to drop the thing….

Punch Grand Cru Natural Robusto 5.25×50

I’d smoked a few other Punch cigars before I came to the Punch Grand Cru Natural Robusto. I thought I’d found my favorite in the Gran Puro Santa Rita and then I found these. First, it falls into my ideal handling size. The 50-ring size of the Punch Grand Cru Natural Robusto is easy to hold for my size hands, and easy to bite or puff without dislocating my jaw at the same time. I’d lit a few Santa Rita’s in…

Padron 2000 Robusto Maduro 5×50 ?>

Padron 2000 Robusto Maduro 5×50

The Padron 2000 Robusto Maduro goes slightly against my favorite requirements for picks. First it’s a maduro with a full flavor smoke body. It’s a 50-ring size, which is okay but getting small-er, and it is a Padron which says “expensive,” but this one is not so much. So where does the Padron 2000 Robusto Maduro fit in? First, although rated as a “full” flavor cigar, it is very flavorful and not harsh at all. The draw of the Padron 2000…

Cohiba Habana Robusto Counterfeits 4.9×48, Venice, CA

A Cigar – Cohiba Habana Robusto Counterfeits on an afternoon in Venice, CA Louise and I ran the two-hour drive to Venice for a Sunday birthday party. Christopher and Elaine, Louise’s niece and her husband, were throwing a birthday party on the front lawn of their house and their baby Lydia got passed from lap to lap. It was Enda King’s birthday and we were invited. What turned out to be a beautiful day of beachy weather became the perfect…

Padron Serie 1926 No. 2 Belicoso 5×52

My wife bought me this Padron Serie 1926 No. 2 Belicoso. I generally wouldn’t buy a cigar as expensive as this for fear that I wouldn’t enjoy it for the expense. But, it was our anniversary and she wanted to buy me a good cigar and so I went with it. Not knowing anything about the Padron Serie 1926 No. 2 Belicoso, I could only go by the advice of our local smoke shop guide. I didn’t know much about…

Quorum Classic Robusto 4.75×50

I shopped this from a large wine and cigar chain that is very popular in my area and chose it because I wanted to find an economy smoke that I could enjoy in between my pricier cigars. This priced out at around $2.50 per smoke, which is a little more than another brand I tried and liked, so I thought maybe this would add some variety to my cheaper ‘gars. I bought two. Nope. This was not average, simple or…
